A victory for the Internet

Salamun alaikum,

Pada tahun lepas, bulan keempat, sahabat sipekan memaklumkan ISPnya telah memblock laman web ini, lalu beliau bertindak untuk menukarkan DNS pada komputernya.

Kira-kira setahun dua bulan kemudian ISP kami pula turut buat demikian. Pada hari ini sudah sebulan laman web kami diblocknya. Maka pemblockan jadi lebih luas di negara kita.

Satu emel telah dikirim pada 21 Jun yang lepas kepada dua tokoh daripada pihak berkuasa (sila rujuk di sini). Dan semalam satu lagi dikirim kepada salah seorang daripada mereka pula. Tujuan mengirim adalah supaya pihak-pihak tertentu tidak mempunyai sebarang alasan untuk mereka beri kepada Allah pada hari kemudian.

Yang Berhormat,

Rayuan II atas Pemblockan Laman Web E-Bacaan

Terpanggil untuk buat rayuan kali kedua kerana dewasa ini saya kerap menerima emel, panggilan telefon dan SMS daripada para pengunjung yang kelihatan kecewa tidak dapat mengakses laman web tersebut.

2.         Mereka adalah orang-orang al-Qur’an yang memilih laman web untuk menjadi antara rujukan. Meskipun dianggap sesat oleh sesetengah pihak, namun mereka tetap berkunjung kerana yakin, misalan daripada ayat-ayat al-Qur’an mengandungi perkataan sesat, siapa sebenarnya orang-orang yang dikategorikan Allah sebagai sesat.

3.         Demikianlah satu contoh Peringatan yang dapat difahamkan daripada laman web E-Bacaan. Antara sebab lain ialah terjemahan al-Qur’an, dalam erti kata terjemahan perkataan sebenar (menurut kamus, lexicon dan concordance), bukan tafsir atau pendapat golongan bermazhab. Perbezaan ketara di antara dua pendekatan ini dibincang dalam sebuah artikel yang dapat dibaca di sini.

4.         Andaikata pemblockan dilakukan atas sebab perbezaan fahaman, maka fahaman lain yang tidak Quranik, tidak menuruti atau bertentangan dengan ajaran Allah, harus diutamakan dalam pertimbangan, walaupun ramai tidak setuju dengan tindakan menyekat rakyat daripada membaca atau mendengar semua pandangan, seperti dituntut Allah. Firman-Nya,

“Yang mendengar (semua) ucapan, dan ikut yang paling baik daripadanya, mereka itu, orang-orang yang Allah beri petunjuk kepada mereka; mereka itu, merekalah orang-orang empunya minda.” (39:18)

5.         Kebetulan pula pada hari saya menulis ini, terbit satu berita di sebuah akhbar tempatan bertajuk “A victory for the Internet” tulisan Menteri Luar Sweden, yang membicara tentang “the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday endorsed a resolution upholding the principle of freedom of expression and information on the Internet.” Berita sepenuh dilampirkan di bawah.

6.         Penghalangan ayat-ayat Allah atau kikir terhadapnya, yang sedang dilaksana, tidak mungkin mampu membawa kebaikan, malah keburukan. Kebenaran harus disedar daripada ayat-ayat-Nya yang sudah disampaikan dalam emel sebelum ini, berbunyi,

“Dan tiada yang halang manusia daripada percaya apabila petunjuk datang kepada mereka, dan minta ampun kepada Pemelihara mereka, melainkan bahawa sunnah (resam) orang-orang dahulu kala akan datang kepada mereka, atau bahawa azab datang kepada mereka berhadapan muka.” (18:55)

“Hai, kamu ini; kamu diseru untuk nafkahkan di jalan Allah, dan antara kamu ada orang yang kikir. Sesiapa kikir, dia kikir hanya terhadap dirinya sendiri. Allah Yang Kaya, kamu yang fakir (berkeperluan). Jika kamu berpaling, Dia akan tukar kamu dengan kaum yang selain daripada kamu, kemudian mereka tidaklah yang serupa dengan kamu.” (47:38)

7.         Tempoh sebulan yang berlalu, sejak diblock pihak tertentu, terasa agak lama dalam menanggung kekecewaan yang menimpa. Justeru, kami memohon sekali lagi kepada pihak YB agar pemblockan laman web e-bacaan.com dapat ditarik balik. Terima kasih.

A victory for the Internet

IN a ground-breaking vote on an issue that affects all of us, the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday endorsed a resolution upholding the principle of freedom of expression and information on the Internet.

The broad support for the resolution demonstrated that maintaining the free flow of information on the Internet is a global call and not something pushed only by a few Western states.

In recent years I have frequently spoken about Internet freedom, an issue which is a priority to the Swedish government.

I have condemned the harassment of bloggers and online activists and called for a strong global coalition of states to support the simple but salient fact that freedom of expression also is applicable to the Internet.

The group of countries that presented this resolution – Brazil, Nigeria, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey and the United States – truly represent a global coalition. And the support by other states (India, Egypt and Indonesia, to name a few of the more than 80 co-sponsors) and global civil society was overwhelming.

Together, we are building a global alliance for the freedom of the Internet.

As technology and the Internet evolve, so should the work in the United Nations. From a limited group of countries rallying behind a short statement on freedom of expression on the Internet two years ago, we have seen the interest and support soar.

The vote in Geneva on Thursday was a breakthrough of fundamental importance.

Beyond affirming that freedom of expression applies also to the Internet, the resolution also recognised the immense value the Internet has for global development and called on all states to facilitate and improve global access to it.

We are rapidly entering into a new world of hyperconnectivity. Mobile data traffic alone is set to increase 15-fold in the next five years. It reaches everywhere, and we see the new networks challenging the old hierarchies everywhere.

Just one example: In past decades, massive crimes could be committed in Syria and other countries without us even knowing. But we can now follow what is happening minute by minute, megabyte by megabyte.

Today, with nearly the entire globe covered by mobile networks, the problem of physical access to the Internet is almost a forgotten issue. What is increasingly worrying is what kind of access people are being offered.

We cannot accept that the Internet’s content should be limited or manipulated depending on the flavour-of-the-month of political leaders. Only by securing access to the open and global Internet will true development take place.

The governments of the Human Rights Council now for the first time have confirmed that freedom of expression applies fully to the Internet. A global coalition for a global and open Internet has been formed.

This is truly important, but we must not stop here. The challenge now is to put these words into action to make sure that people all over the world can use and utilise the power of connectivity without having to fear for their safety.
